Catherine Finger loves to dream, write, and tell stories. Recently retired from a wonderful career in public education, she celebrates the ability to choose how to spend her time in a new way during the second half of life. So far, she chooses to write books, ride horses, serve others, and generally find her way into and out of trouble both on the road and at home. She lives in the Midwest with a warm and wonderful combination of family and friends.

Catherine Finger joined the board of the College of Lake County in April 2017. Recently retired after twelve years as Superintendent of Grayslake Community High School District 127, she spent most of her educational career serving as a public school leader in Lake County. She earned a doctorate in Instructional Leadership from National Louis University, an MA in Spanish Literature from the University of Northern Iowa and a BA in Spanish, French, and Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
During her career she has served on the following boards: Lake County Superintendents; Lake County High School Technology Campus Board of Control; Special Education District of Lake County; IASB Lake Division; Illinois School District Liquid Asset Fund; IASA Governing Board; and AASA Governing Board. An active member of a local church, she has also served as both a board member and an active volunteer for The Oasis Teen Center of Grayslake, and the Grayslake Exchange Club.
Professional recognition includes being named Lake County Superintendent of the Year; Illinois Association of Student Assistance Professionals Superintendent of the Year; and IASA Superintendent of Distinction. Catherine has earned additional awards as the author of the popular Jo Oliver Thriller series. Anchored By Death, her third book in the series, launched in June 2017.
In addition to dedicating her time to the College of Lake County, Catherine is working as a Superintendent Search Consultant for the IASB, and as a sales representative for NaviGate Prepared, a company offering a virtual safety response tool to develop and execute school safety response programs.
Developing and supporting school leaders is her passion and Catherine has written publications and been a presenter at state and national events sponsored by the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA); the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB); the American Association of School Administrators (AASA); and the American Association of School Boards (IASB.)
